Kona’s roller derby team, the Echo City Knockouts, traveled through Canada July 15-20th, facing various Canadian teams in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.

The Knockouts skated a doubleheader on the first day, winning their opening matchup against Terminal City Roller Girs/Bad Reputation 183-130.

In the second match against the Smoking Laces, the fans saw a nail-biting bout where there were lead changes on almost every jam. A Smokin’ Laces skater sustained a major injury during the bout and the game was stopped at halftime with the opposing team ahead 83-81.

On July 16, the Knockouts flew to Calgary, Alberta, where they competed in another doubleheader and a scrimmage.

The day started off with a matchup against Jane Deeres. The Kona squad picked up the win 164-106. The bout was live streamed.

The Knockouts second match was against Avalanche, who was last year’s winner at the Spokarnage Tournament held in Spokane, Washington. In a hard hitting, fast pace bout, the Kona squad triumphed with a score of 229-142.

The teams’s final stop was in Edmonton, Alberta where the ECKO Coach Grand Master Smash held a roller derby skate clinic and scrimmage.
