Hawaii Island police are requesting help to identify a suspect in a burglary at a commercial building on Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo.

South Hilo police responded to a call about a burglary in progress at 3:35 a.m. on May 22, after a witness reported hearing a loud banging noise followed by seeing a man exit a second-floor office. The suspect realized he’d been noticed, shut the door and fled out a rooftop window, which police found had been pried open.

The suspect is described as a “local male” in his late 20s to early 30s, with a short beard and mustache over a dark complexion. He was wearing a dark-gray hooded jacket on the night of the burglary.

Police request anyone with information about the case or the suspect’s identity contact the department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or call Detective Tuckloy Aurello at 961-2385.

Informants who wish to remain anonymous may contact islandwide Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers keeps all information confidential.
