The shops and art galleries of historic Holualoa Village will celebrate local art and music this evening from 5:30 until 8:30 pm. More than a dozen studios and stores will stay open late to welcome friends and visitors with new art work, pupu and music.
At the north end of the town, Dave Lawrence will pump classic rock ‘n’ roll on the Koa Realty lanai across from the landmark Kona Hotel during the evening. Just down the road, the Holualoa Ukulele Gallery, the original 1920s Holualoa Post Office, will host popular Hawaiian and contemporary tunes by Mauka Highnotes. In between, there will be impromptu music at shops and galleries, as well as food.
Pat Pearlman Designs in the Kona Hotel will feature September’s birthstone, sapphire, in original earrings and necklaces. Since the Middle Ages, sapphire is thought to attract heavenly blessings and it symbolizes purity, wisdom, loyalty and trust.
Holualoa Gallery will host artist William Wingert who will be working on an original oil painting. Matthew and Mary Lovein, artists who opened their gallery 26 years ago, will both be on hand to meet with new visitors and old friends.
Glyph Art Gallery welcomes Faith Rockenstein, another new artist. Rockenstein works exclusively with colored pencil on board to create intimate, stylized and graphic vignettes inspired by the Hawaiian landscape and flora. Her jewel-like creations give a new perspective on what can be done with this unique medium.
M. Field Gallery will have the latest art on display by owners Mike and Terry Field, as well as swimwear by Pikai Swim HI. Also featured will be Gary Young’s hand-carved alaia — early style finless surfboards made of exotic island woods and jewelry by Kiana’s Creations, Jana Luxe and Sirena Jewelry.
