“Return of Alala: Restoring the Voice of Hawaii’s Native Forests,” a multimedia, juried art contest featuring the alala, will be on display starting Saturday and continuing through Oct. 9 at Volcano Art Center in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
In conjunction with the long-anticipated release of the alala, Hawaii’s native crow, back into the wild, Volcano Art Center is partnering with San Diego Zoo Global and the Keahou Bird Conservation. The exhibition will provide extensive education featuring the alala as an important bird in Hawaii’s ecology and native culture and double as a fundraising effort to support the release, which will begin this month and continue over the next five years.
A fundraising gala to raise additional support is also planned.
The free exhibition will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Park entrance fees apply.
