Richard Vallance

Richard Gordon Vallance, 79, of Hilo died July 6, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. He was a Navy veteran.

An inurnment service will take place at noon Oct. 21 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

There are no known survivors.

James Rudolph

James “Lee” Rudolph, 66, of Waipio Valley died June 18, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born June 17, 1950, in Austin, Texas, he was a Navy veteran during the Vietnam War.

A memorial celebration will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at James Rudolph’s residence in Waipio Valley. Family requests casual attire. Condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by brother, Charles (Lori) Rudolph of Austin, Texas; nieces and nephews.

James Souza

James Dias Souza, 73, of Honokaa died Sept. 10, 2016, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Dec. 28, 1942, in Honokaa, he was retired from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by son, Michael Souza of Terre Haute, Ind.; daughter, Julie Vazquez-Souza of San Diego; brothers, Adrian Souza of Keaau, Clifford (Shirley) Souza of Hilo; sisters, Bernie Souza of Hilo and Marie Ho of Honokaa; three grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Masashige Akamine

Masashige Akamine, 93, of Hilo died Sept. 26, 2016, at the Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired real estate developer, co-owner of the former Hilo Food Town Supermarket, member of Hilo Meishoin Mission and Hui Okinawa.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Kimiko Akamine of Hilo; son, Howard (Doreen) Akamine of Kaneohe, Oahu; daughters, Dayle (Keith) Nishimura, Margaret (Allan) Yokoyama, both of Mililani, Oahu, Janice (Russell Ono) Akamine of Honolulu; brother, Baldwin (Dorothy) Akamine of Honolulu; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary Vincent

Gary Allen Vincent, 62, of Waikoloa died Oct. 7, 2016. Born June 5, 1954, he was a retired police officer and owned Kartow Kohala.

He is survived by wife, Debralynn; son, Kevin (Nicole) Vincent of Waimea; daughter, Lacey (Sidney Spencer) Vincent of Waikoloa; sister, Terryanne (Daniel) Ireland of Waikoloa; father, Allen (Martha) Vincent of Waikoloa; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
