Team made best out of hospital day

I spent last Friday having a colonoscopy exam at our Kona Community Hospital.

I experienced an exuberant display of aloha from everyone I met in preparing me for the ordeal.

Michelle was the admittance clerk that organizes a smooth transition. Ron was the EKG tech that made sure my ticker was working all right. We came from the same part of Southern Cal, which made for some interesting conversations.

Then RN Lily spent most of the time with me, making sure I was all prepped and ready for the OR. Julie arrived to help her out. Then Dr. Oka showed up to say good morning and check that all was ready.

Showtime had arrived. Only a few moments after I was inside the OR, the doctor walked in, turned on her radio and some good ol’ rock and roll filled the room. That’s the last I recall until I awoke in the recovery room.

Michelle, Ron, Lily, Julie and Dr. Oka personified the aloha spirit and professionalism that made my day memorable and enjoyable. Hana hou to all of you and anyone I missed. Mahalo nui loa e aloha ke Akua

Funny, how word gets out

I read with interest this front page article. I was so happy to read this in the paper with the knowledge that “a full update would be available early next week when Lt. Sherry Bird returns to the island” so that all subjects could get out of town before the vice squad can catch them! The positive side is that the drugs were intercepted!
