Ione Bruce

Ione Norine Bruce, 94, of Waikoloa died March 18, 2017, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo.

Born in Inwood, Iowa, she worked in Los Angeles as an aircraft assembler. She was a member of Waikoloa Community Church and RSVP.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. March 31 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery.

She is survived by daughter, Charlene (Floyd) Lapinid of Waikoloa; one grandson; sister, Joyce Van Voorst of Fallbrook, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy Onaka

Roy Hisao Onaka, 81, of Kealakekua died Feb. 20, 2017, at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born April 15, 1935, in Holualoa, he was founder and president of General Appliance, Inc. and Okane Investments, Inc. He was a member of Fukuoka Kenjin Kai, Bank Kumiai, Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, and an Army veteran.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. April 1 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery with a 10 a.m. memorial service. The family requests aloha attire worn and flowers be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Janice Onaka of Kealakekua; sons, Kyle (Sharon) Onaka of Kealakekua, and Colin (Lorianne) Onaka of Holualoa; daughter, Shawn (Angel Lagaspi) Kushima of Makakilo, Oahu; brother, Charles (Gwen) Onaka of Honaunau; sister, Nellie Reed of Holualoa; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

George Hokama

George Warren Hokama, 68, of Mountain View died Feb. 25, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired park caretaker for the Hawaii County Parks and Recreation and a veteran of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

No services.

He is survived by sisters, Lucille Handy of New York, Lilliane Hokama of Oregon; Loyd (Katie) Hokama of Hilo; one niece and one nephew.
