Thomas Carvalho

Thomas John “Tommy” Carvalho, 70, of Keaau died April 3, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired pressman with the former Honolulu Advertiser and a Navy veteran.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. April 19 at the Hilo Boat Ramp across from Suisan. Friends may also call from 1-3 p.m April 22 at Bellows Field Beach Park in Waimanalo, Oahu for a service. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

He is survived by daughters, Cindy Carvalho of Kailua, Oahu, and Wendy (Lash) Eversole of Cottage Grove, Ore.; four grandchildren; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Manuel Pineo

Manuel Garcia Shaw Pineo, 37, of Captain Cook died April 6, 2017, in Kealakekua. Born April 6, 1980, in Stoughton, Mass., he worked as a gardener and landscaper.

He is survived by mother, Maria Vidito of Captain Cook; maternal grandmother, Margarita Porter of Rochester, Wash.

Corazon Valera

Corazon Guzon Valera, 97, of Honokaa died April 2, 2017, at home. Born Feb. 15, 1920, in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. April 21 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa. Visitation will continue from 9-11 a.m. April 22 at the church with an 11 a.m. funeral Mass. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Leo (Jackie) Valera of Hilo, Juan Valera of the Philippines; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three hanai great-grandchildren; one hanai great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jane Ota

Jane Takiko Ota, 73, of Hilo died March 20, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hakalau, she was a homemaker and member of Piihonua Kumiai.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by husband, Satoshi Ota of Hilo; sons, Steve Ota and Marc Ota of Hilo; daughter, Donna (Glenn Asmus) Ota of Hilo; brother, Lionel (Elaine) Tatsutani of Kona; sister, Jean Tatsutani of Waipahu, Oahu; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Debra Guiteras

Debra G. Guiteras, 63, of Papaikou died April 8, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Morton Camp, Papaikou, she was a lei maker, former 4-H and Brownie leader, former pitcher for the Papaikou Babes softball team, and a teacher’s aide.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. April 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 7 p.m. service. Graveside committal service and burial will be at noon April 27 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers welcome.

She is survived by husband, Anthony Guiteras of Papaikou; children, Krista (Kaipo) Duncan of Kapolei, Oahu, Paul Guiteras of Papaikou, Timothy Guiteras of Hilo, Tabitha (Jeremy) Yadao of Panaewa; sisters, Lynette (Tom) Soares of Pepeekeo, Luane (Leigh) Landgraf of Kaumana; brothers, Randal (Debbie) Payao of Hilo, Robert (Faith) Payao of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gary Sine

Gary Sine, 62 of Kohala died April 5, 2017, at The Queens Medical Center. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was a carpenter.

Friends may call for a memorial service from 10 a.m. to noon April 29 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by mother, Kelii Sine of Kohala; stepfather, Ray Chavez of Kohala; sister, Leianne (Scott) Buie of Salt Lake City, Utah; many nieces and nephews.

Jan Campbell

Jan Booth Campbell, 81, of Volcano died April 9, 2017, at his residence. Born in Defiance, Ohio, he was a retired special education teacher and school administrator, a pioneer hang glider and a Navy veteran during the Korean War.

Private services will take place later.

He is survived by wife, Caroline Campbell of Volcano; sons, Ian Campbell of Jackson Hole, Wyo., Daran (Jessica) Bruce Campbell of Volcano; three grandchildren; brothers, Bruce (Betty) Campbell, Clark (Linda) Campbell, John (Sharon) Campbell, Jim (Beth) Campbell, Roger (Julie) Campbell; sisters, Tamara Schusler, Brie (Doug) Krueger, Jean (Terry) Dowd; numerous nieces and nephews.
