Kona Community Hospital is celebrating National Volunteer Week, April 23-29, by recognizing the volunteers who share their time and talent to make a difference in our community.

The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary has 57 active volunteers. In 2016, volunteers donated 3,200 hours to the hospital. There are numerous ongoing volunteer roles such as helping in the emergency department, same day surgery, obstetrics unit and the Falling Star Program.

Further, the Auxiliary volunteers coordinate the hospital gift shop and Friday bake sale. Funds are primarily raised to support nursing scholarships.

In addition to the auxiliary group, the volunteers of the Chaplain Association of Kona Community Hospital offer spiritual guidance and counsel to patients of all faiths in order to assist in the healing process. These volunteers are available 24 hours a day to provide on-call spiritual care for emergency situations, or for patients and families who are dealing with critical illness.
