Humpback whale advisory council seeks applicants

NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking to fill four primary and seven alternate seats on its advisory council. The council ensures public participation in sanctuary matters and provides advice to sanctuary management.

The sanctuary is accepting applications for the following seats: business/commerce (primary and alternate); conservation (alternate); Lanai Island (alternate); Maui Island (alternate); Molokai Island (primary and alternate); Native Hawaiian (primary); Oahu Island (alternate); ocean recreation (alternate); and tourism (primary).

Applicants who are chosen as primary or alternate members should expect to serve a three-year term.

Applications are due by May 31.

Application period extended for subsidized preschool

The Department of Human Services has opened an additional application period for its Preschool Open Doors program and encourages families to apply by May 31 for participation from July 1 through June 30, 2018.

The program provides child care subsidies to eligible low- and moderate-income families to pay preschool tuition. Children must be eligible to enter kindergarten in the 2018-19 school year (born between Aug. 1, 2012 and July 31, 2013). Families may choose any one of the 433 state-licensed preschools. Underserved or at-risk children receive priority consideration.

New physical therapist in Kona

Therapydia Kona, a physical therapy and wellness clinic in Keauhou Shopping Center, announces that Lev Borukhov has joined the clinic to better serve the growing amount of patient need in Kona. Borukhov comes with a wealth of experience caring for patients and treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

Borukhov graduated from SUNY Stony Brook University with a double major in psychology and health sciences. He received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2011, and has worked in various physical therapy settings for the last five years.
