Medical cannabis ban shouldn’t be
Recently the management of the housing project where I live has decided to prevent its residents from using medical marijuana despite doctors prescriptions for medical conditions that warrant its use.
This is most unfortunate. You see, I am a cancer survivor. I do not use or take marijuana for any reason at present. But I have seen marijuana used by our kupuna here at Ainakea Senior Residences and it is useful for some serious conditions. We should all have a right to use a doctor-prescribed medicine if we need it.
Unfortunately, our housing management has decided that they know best and we are not allowed to follow our doctor’s prescribed treatment for serious medical conditions. I think that is wrong. The management of Ainakea Senior Residences should think long and hard about refusing to allow its clients their constitutional right to use their medicines in the privacy of their homes. Its not about the management, its about the people’s right to medical care, its about our personal freedoms, and in the end it is a life and death issue. What happens to the kupuna who are thrown out into the street and become homeless because they choose to follow doctor’s orders? Remember that no one is here because they have too much money. We are here because we don’t! For many of us, those who are ill, homelessness is a death sentence. Please don’t throw us out because we follow our doctor’s orders!

Don’t fall for disability scam
Be careful of the scams out there. I am one of those on Social Security and have been for many years. Because of some things I was going through, my attorneys told me I should put in for Social Security Disability.
I put in the call and that was when I found out that you cannot get disability if you are over 66, which I am. Of course, my attorneys were shocked, too. They did not know the over 66 years part. Someone is out there calling people now and looking for information on your Social Security and is going to tell you all about getting on disability.
I advised whoever was on the line that you cannot get disability after the age of 66. He quickly hangs up the phone. It has happened to me more than once in the last couple of weeks. Just be prepared and beware!
