Rock Bottom Road name explained

In early 1970s I was hired by Cary Watson to cook for his many workers. Until his giant Weimereiner was allowed to walk on the dinner table and forage. That displeased me. The next day everyone including me, the cook, was to fill the holes in the road with rocks. Prior to coming to Kona, I didn’t know about this island’s volcanoes. I was feeling unappreciated and grumpy when Cary Watson drives by and asks us what name we should give the road. I sardonically said, “Call it Rock Bottom.” Decades later, I was very surprised to see a street sign go up that Rock Bottom Road. Wow.
