Kiwanis Club to meet

The Kiwanis Club of Kailua-Kona will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Makalei Golf Club in Kailua-Kona. All visiting and prospective members are invited to attend.

Kiwanis serve the community by conducting service projects that respond to identified needs, especially related to children.

VFW announces this week’s activities

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122 welcomes veterans and veteran service organization to the following events this week:

From 5-7 p.m. Friday, the VFW, located behind Kona Locksmith on Kaiwi Street, will host a $5 meal that includes pasta, salad and dinner, as well as service. The post welcomes all to join in the meal.

At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, the VFW Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting.

Homeownership seminar offered

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union and Hawaii HomeOwnership Center will host a seminar titled “Realizing the Dream of Homeownership” on Saturday at the credit union’s Kaloko Facility in Kailua-Kona. It will run from 9-11:30 a.m. in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room at 73-5611 Olowalu St.

The free seminar will cover education, information and the ABC’s of home buying.

Degree preparation workshop slated July 18

Hawaii Community Palamanui will host a degree preparation workshop at the Palamanui campus from 5:30-7 p.m. July 18 at the Panini Building, room 125.

The University Center, West Hawaii offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs from across the 10-campus University of Hawaii system.

Nelson makes Dean’s List

Michael Nelson of Kapaau, who is studying mechanical engineering technology, made the Dean’s List for the 2017 spring semester at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean’s List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.4.

Founded in 1829, RIT enrolls about 19,000 students in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs, making it among the largest private universities in the U.S.
