NORTH KOHALA — A Kohala Community Arts Showcase event will be held at North Kohala Public Library throughout the afternoon and evening Monday to showcase a variety of new cultural arts classes offered around Kohala.

From 3-5 p.m., free youth hands-on activities and demonstrations will include Brazilian Capoeira, juggling, acrobatics, jewelry making, poetry, music and a arts treasure hunt. Participants can win tickets for free pupu and special prizes.

From 4-7:30 p.m., families can try a new art form, listen to great music, enjoy a bit of circus fun and learn about classes and workshops available for all ages around North Kohala. The gathering will begin with a blessing.

Attendees can go on an “Arts Walkabout” and earn free tickets for tasty pupus served 5-6:30 p.m.

From 6:30-7:30 p.m., will be “Evening in the Library Rotunda,” where residents can step inside for local author readings and see the new “Heart of Kohala” video that helped the small rural community win an important National Endowment for the Arts cultural planning grant award.

The free event is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and One Island Sustainable Living.
