WAIKOLOA VILLAGE — More than 350 adults and children attended the free, family Star Gazing event at Waikoloa Stables Saturday night. Sponsored by Waikoloa Village Association, the overall goal was to start bringing the community together.

“Events that we put on like this are for the purpose of us playing together and sharing the aloha,” Olelo paa Ogawa said, the Waikoloa Village Association’s communication chairman.

The crowd was able to view stars from several telescopes beginning at dusk, generously brought to the event by local residents to share the universe with their neighbors.

“Special thanks went to Donna Yoshizumi, Aunty Lorna Saito and Lorrie Taylor for making this event a success,” Ogawa said. “Also to the Waikoloa Lion’s Club and CERT for volunteering for this event.”

Keiki fire dancers performed that night, guest astronomers shared their expertise and attendees waited in lines to learn more about the universe through the telescopes.
