Robert Jardine

Robert Ernest Jardine, Sr., 84, of Wapunalei, died Dec. 6, 2017, at Kaiser Moanalua, Oahu. Born Jan. 31, 1933, in Waipunalei, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation Co., a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 20 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again 9-10:30 a.m. Dec. 21 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe for a 10:30 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed. Burial at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at noon.

He is survived by daughter, Brenda (Mark) DeRego of Ahualoa; son, Robert Ernest Jardine, Jr. of Paauhau; sister, Theresa Wilt of Hilo; one brother-in-law; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim Paulo

Jim “Kimo” Nepai Paulo, 51, of Hilo, died Dec. 12, 2017, in Hilo. He was born in Hilo.

A celebration of life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 20 at The Hilo Women’s Club.

He is survived by sister, Pamela (Sean) Matsumura Paulo of Hilo; Nephews, Gary (Kaio) Pacheco Jr., and Ethan-James Matsumura, both of Hilo; one niece; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Agnes Carvalho

Agnes Meyer Carvalho, 89, of Hilo, died Dec. 4, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Oct. 14, 1928, in Laupahoehoe, she was a retired telephone operator for the Hawaiian Telephone Co., and a member of the Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha and Rippers Sewing Circle.

Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Dec. 22 at Malia Puka O Kalani Church in Keaukaha. Celebration of Mass begins at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire; burial at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2, at noon.

She is survived by sons, Dennis J. (Diane) of Keaau and Michael Anthony (Pam) of Hilo; sisters, Dorothy Lanza, Annie Lum and Mary Anna Meyer of Honolulu; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law.

Clarisse Torres

Clarisse Pua Nani Sui Sing Far Torres, 59, of Waimea, died Dec. 9, 2017, at the North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was the co-owner of Torres Roofing and a homemaker.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by husband, Frank Torres of Waimea; son, Marshall (Tomo) Ng of Waimea; daughter, Sheena (Kendric) Nishioka of Hilo; mother, Stella O’Brien of Honolulu; sisters, Cynthia (Leroy) Rodrigues of Honolulu, Kimberlyn Ng of Honolulu; brothers, Clarence (Cindy) Ng of Volcano, Michael Kolaczyk of California; four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pauline Lutkenhouse

Pauline Rosalie Lutkenhouse, 89, of Papaikou, died Dec. 2, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Cleveland, she was the co-founder of the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens.

Private memorial services held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hilo Food Basket or the Boys and Girls Club of Hilo, in memory of the late Mrs. Lutkenhouse.

She is survived by sister, Margaret Savickas of Cleveland; stepdaughter, Debara (Jim) Lutkenhouse-Frost of Pleasanton, Calif.; stepson, Dan (Laurie) Lutkenhouse, Jr. of Truckee, Calif.; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Imanaka

Kenneth Seiji Imanaka, 77, of Hilo, died Nov. 7, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired printer.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Fujie Imanaka of Hilo; sons, Russell (Teri) Imanaka and Glenn (Naomi) Imanaka of Honolulu, Lynn Imanaka of San Francisco; brother, Wayne (Pat) Imanaka of Montebello, Calif.; sisters, Maxine Imanaka of Holland, Mich., Carol Imanaka of Honolulu; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
