The Kohala Center’s nine-month course includes 188 hours of classroom training, online coursework, on-farm demonstrations and workshops, and field trips, as well as a student-selected assignment. The course begins Jan. 13 and runs through September.

Classes are held every other Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center and TKC’s Demonstration Farm in Honokaa, with some sessions in North Kohala, South Kona and Ka’u. Although no previous farming experience is required, preference is given to applicants who have taken steps to become agricultural producers but would benefit from a comprehensive curriculum.

A limited number of scholarships are available. Visit koha.la/farmer for more information and to download an application, or contact Melanie Willich at mwillich@kohalacenter.org. The deadline to apply is Jan. 12.
