VASH receives $3,500
Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii Island was presented a donation of $3,500 this week from Hilton Waikoloa Village. It is from monies raised from their 2017 Blue Energy craft fair held in November.
Other charity recipients included, Abay Kitties and Hilton Blue Energy.
Queens’ MarketPlace hosting job fair Saturday
Job-seekers are invited to Queens’ MarketPlace from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Coronation Pavilion.
Numerous shops and restaurants within the popular resort shopping center on the Kohala Coast are looking for eager candidates with a strong work drive. A variety of full-time and part-time positions are available at all skill levels, in food and beverage, retail, customer service and sales.
Businesses recruiting new employees include Waikoloa Luxury Cinema and Bistro, Cookies Clothing, Starbucks, Olivia Clare Boutique, Daylight Mind Café and Restaurant, Genesis Galleries, SoHa Living, Lava Light Gallery, Persimmon, Island Gourmet Markets, QuikSilver, Island Pearls and others.
Interested candidates can fill out applications and talk with staff on site. As a mahalo for attending, a free goodie bag will be awardeded to the first 50 applicants attending, in addition to a lucky number drawing of specialty items and gift certificates, generously donated by Queens’ MarketPlace vendors.

Scholarship available
The Rotary Club of Hilo Bay is accepting scholarship applications from Big Island teens graduating in 2018.
The $5,000 scholarship to help with college expenses is open to all Big Island teens and the deadline is Feb. 7.

Pike named to dean’s list
Sabrina L. Pike, daughter of Rowena and Nigel Pike of Kailua-Kona, has been named to the dean’s list at Hamilton College for the 2017 fall semester.
To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above.
Pike, a sophomore, is a graduate of Kealakehe High School.
Auntie’s Angels hosts Top Readers Club
Six children from Hookena Elementary School were treated to a meal at The Fish Hopper and a private tour of the Palace on Wednesday, hosted by Auntie’s Angels. None of the children had been to a restaurant and none had been to the Palace, but they all met and went above their reading requirements.
The Auntie’s Angels charity started with Hookena two years ago, offering a brown-bag food program, and later started a Readers Club, encouraging students with a monthly pizza party and free books for top readers. This summer, Hookena had a record 30 students in a summer reading program.
