West Hawaii Fishery Council hosting meeting

The West Hawaii Fishery Council (WHFC) is co-hosting an outstation community meeting with KUPA 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Pukaana Hall.

Everyone is invited to attend and share their observations, concerns and experiences or have any feedback about what’s happening in your nearshore environment. The topic of this meeting will be marine mammal interactions, what are the rules? Why are they in place? Who enforces them? To help answer these questions, representatives from DOCARE and NOAA have been invited to this meeting.

The council also invites new members to apply, especially recreational, commercial and regional fishers who can represent a constituency – that is, a group of people to whom they have access and can routinely gather input to bring back to the council.

The WHFC is a collection of stakeholder representatives that form an advisory body to the Department of Land and Natural Resources on issues relating to the nearshore marine environment in West Hawaii, such as fishery management, resource replenishment, reef health, user conflicts and others.
