Candidates Forum in Waikoloa

The Waikoloa Community Leadership Council is sponsoring a Candidates Forum, 3:30-5:30 July 7, at Waikoloa School. Candidates seeking election in 2018 as county or state legislators representing areas of the Big Island, including North Kona, North and South Kohala, Waimea, and parts of Hamakua will be present. The forum will be an opportunity for the public to be better informed about those running for office and their positions on important public policy issues.

Hawaii Island reporter Sherry Bracken, with LAVA 105.3 fm and KKOA 107.7 fm and Hawaii Public Radio, is the moderator for the forum. All candidates will be given equal time for opening and closing statements and to answer questions submitted by the audience. Also, after the Forum, there will be time to gather more information by way of an informal “talk story” with the candidates at their booths.

Contenders and the office they aspire to include: Tim Richards and Maya Parish, for the nonpartisan District 9 County Council seat; Democrats Cindy Evans, David Tarnas, and Republican Thomas Belekanich, District 7 State House of Representatives seat; and Democrats Lorraine Inouye and Heather Kimball, District 4 State Senate seat.

Waikoloa School is at the intersection of Paniolo Avenue and Ho’oko.
