KAILUA-KONA — No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-5.3 earthquake that struck at 5:03 p.m. Monday in the summit region of Kilauea volcano.

While some areas may have experienced shaking, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no tsunami was generated by the earthquake.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said the shaking was the result of a collapse/explosion event at the Kilauea summit. The event resulted in a small plume made of mostly steam and little ash.
