Since 1989, Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows staff members have raised young honu from Sea Life Park on Oahu in the hotel’s saltwater ponds. Several juvenile turtles are approved for release each year.
The public can attend the Turtle Independence Day festivities beginning at 10:30 a.m. July 4 at the turtle pond on the hotel’s ground floor under the main lobby. The event will include a welcome ceremony, hula performance, honu release, live entertainment and edibles for purchase from island food trucks.
