Tommie Kamae

Tommie Ann Kamae, 54, of Volcano Village, died June 21, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Houston, she was a stay-at-home mom, who was creative both in the kitchen and in her children’s lives.

Private celebration of life.

She is survived by husband, David Kamae of Oahu; daughter, Savanah Kamae of Hilo; daughter, Leilani Kamae of Volcano Village; sons, Rorick Kamae, John (Bryson) Kamae, and Christian Kamae of Hilo; mother, Virginia Wheelis of Opelousas, La.; sisters, Shawn Allen and Patricia Allen of Houston; one son-in-law; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alasdair Hoskins

Alasdair Hoskins, 11, of Keaau died June 20, 2018, at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a student at St. Joseph Elementary School.

Private services. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alasdair may be made to either the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House.

He is survived by parents, Daniel Hoskins and Gretchen Magnuson of Keaau; sister, Elodie Hoskins of Keaau; maternal grandparents, Kim and Barbara Magnuson of Papaikou; paternal grandparents, Graham and Angela Hoskins of England; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Regino Ojano

Regino Damasco Ojano; aka; Regino Damasco Ojano, Sr. 94, of Hilo; died June 4, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Sept. 8, 1923, in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a retired truck driver for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company. He also was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call6-9 p.m. July 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again 8-9:30 a.m. July 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire and no flowers; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section).

He is survived by daughters, Elvira (Raymond) Yoneoka of Hilo and Bernadette (Ralston) Medeiros of Pepeekeo; sons, Donn Ojano and Reggie (Sharleen) Ojano, Jr. of Hilo, Rodrigo Ojano of Pepeekeo; brothers, Majen (Trifina) Ojano and Adolfo (Teofila) Ojano of Philippines; sisters, Corazon Gameng, Felicisima Gonzalo and Juliana Burbano of Philippines; three brothers in-law; Nevada; four sisters-in-law; 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Richard Clark

Richard Douglas Clark, 72, of Ocean View, died June 9, 2018, at his residence. Born Oct. 2, 1945, in Washington, Ind., he was an electrician. He was a draftsman, jeweler and owner of South Point Rods. He was a classic vehicle restorer and avid golfer.

Memorial service will be held at noon July 7 at his residence at 92-8370 Tiki Lane in Ocean View.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimber (Robert Rabelo) Clark of New Mexico, Jessica (Noel, Sr.) Espejo and Monica Agpawa of Ocean View; son, N. David Clark of Roswell, N.M.; brothers, Ron Clark of Houston, Texas, and Jeff (Renee) Clark of Austin, Texas; sister, Donna (Jim) Zelko of Houston; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marlyn Kelly

Marlyn Ann Kelly, 78, of Pahoa, died June 23, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Minnesota and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Jim (Diane Tracy) Curley, Jr. of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter, Lynn Lamm of Nanawale; stepdaughter, Michelle (James) Anderson of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Ronald (Barbara) Jensen of Two Harbors, Minn., James (Pam) Jensen of Kellog, Minn. Basilio Tagalicod, Jr.

Basilio “Dong” “Tag” Tagalicod, Jr., 61, of Hilo, died June 11, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on July 15, 1956, in Hilo, he was a retired first sergeant in the U.S. Army, a former instructor for Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and Youth Challenge. He also was a former owner of Island Eruption and a member of United States Bowling Congress (USBC), Hawaii Classic Cruizers and the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. July 6 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 6 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again from 8-10 a.m. July 7 at the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for an 11 a.m. celebration of Mass with military honors to follow. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed, cremation at Dodo Mortuary Crematory.

Harry Kon

Harry Kon, 84, of Hilo, died June 24, 2018, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born on April 29, 1934, in Honolulu, he was a retired airline fueler for Lockheed Martin and a U.S. Marine Corps Korean War Veteran.

He is survived by son, Harry (Andrea) Kon of Vancouver, Canada; daughter, Lisa Ann Kon of Waianae, Oahu; brothers, Clarence “Ducky” Kon, Sr. of Oahu and Eugene “Kado” Kon of Oahu; sisters, Elizabeth Balocon of Oahu and Pearl Sumida of Boston, New Hampshire; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Richard Santos

Richard Wilfred Santos, 90, of Hilo died on June 11, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home. Born March 16, 1928, in Hilo, he was a retired police captain for the Hawaii County Police Department, former CEO of the ARC of Hilo, Commodore Coast Guard Auxiliary 14 District, Hilo Masonic Lodge 33rd degree, Waiakea Lions, Boy Scout Master for Troop 78. World War II veteran with the US Army Air Corp/US Air Force.

Leslie Castro, Sr.

Leslie M. Castro, Sr., 85, of Hilo, died June 26, 2018, in Hilo. Born on July 29, 1932, in Hilo, he was a retired foreman for a lumber yard company.

He is survived by son, Leslie M. (Leeann) Castro, Jr. of Hilo; brother, Clyde Castro of Las Vegas; sister, Emogene Pacheco of Hakalau; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Henry Tavares, Jr.

Henry J. Tavares, Jr., 55, of Hilo, died on May 31, 2018, at the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. He was born in Honokaa and was a retired assistant police chief with the Hawaii County Police Department, associate pastor and Church Council Member of Word of God, graduate of the 208th session of the FBI National Academy, member of New Hope Church Hilo, the Hilo Yacht Club, and the Hui Makai Motorcycle Club.

Visitation 3:30-5 p.m. July 26 at New Hope Church, 840 Kupulau Road, Hilo. Celebration of life service at 5 p.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Tavares of Hilo; daughter, Kaitlin (Jordan Victorine) Tavares of Hilo; sons, Sean (Crystal Joy Ross) Tavares of Hilo and Kauhane (Brianne Clark) Castro of Honolulu; parents, Henry Tavares, Sr. and Stella Gomes Tavares of Hilo; maternal grandmother, Mabel “Mama” Gomes of Paauilo; parents-in-law; two brothers-in-law; nine grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.

Edward Requelman

Edward “Baka/Baker” Requelman, 81, of Glenwood, died June 10, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Oct. 1, 1936, in Kohala; he was a laborer for Laupahoehoe Sugar Company and a retired Mechanic for the Mac Farms Macadamia of Hawaii in Honomalino. He also was a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. July 9 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again 8-10 a.m. July 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed; burial at Alae Cemetery (new section).

Michael Nakamura

Michael Tadashi Nakamura, 72, of Hilo, died June 14, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born June 17, 1945, in Honolulu, he retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Education as an auto mechanics teacher at Hilo High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by wife, Helen Nakamura of Hilo; daughter, Leigh Nakamura of Hilo; son, Reed (Melody) Nakamura of Honolulu; brother, Alvin (Angie) Nakamura of Honolulu; one granddaughter; numerous aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Thelma Turnbull

Thelma Turnbull, 92 of Pahoa, died June 18, 2018. Born on Feb. 13, 1926, in Scotland, she was a retiree of Lindenhurst School system in New York. She was very involved in the Masons and the Eastern Star in New York.
