KAILUA-KONA — Military units will convoy between Kawaihae Harbor and Pohakuloa Training Area beginning Thursday.

The units will be traveling from Kawaihae to the military training area situated in the saddle between Mauna Loa and Maunakea though Sunday. The units will again convoy, this time from PTA to Kawaihae Harbor, July 20 to 28.

Convoys are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will use the Akoni Pule Corridor, Queen Kaahumanu Highway, Waikoloa Road, Mamalahoa Highway and Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

Additionally during July, community members may notice an increase in convoys and military training, to include aviation activities, at and around Pohakuloa as a result of the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. Military activity at the port of Kawaihae will also increase as units arrive and depart with their equipment.
