Hawaii Writers Guild presents Writers’ Voices
The Hawaii Writers Guild will present Writers’ Voices, an evening of original readings by guild members, from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Thelma Parker Library, 67-1209 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea.
Readers will include guild members Bruce Stern from Waikoloa Village; Jada Tan Rufo and Greer Woodward, both from Waimea; Paul Bryant from Laupahoehoe; and Virginia Fortner from North Kohala.
“The voices of these writers sound in different worlds of the imagination, but together they make a five-part harmony sure to please any audience,” said Joy Fisher, guild public relations director in a press release.
Bruce Stern will read from his soon-to-be-published tech thriller, “The Fuel Saver Project: A Peter Jones Story.”
Jada Tan Rufo will read from her memoir, “Banana Girl,” about her experiences as an English teacher in China.
Greer Woodward will present a short story, “Catmint Tea,” a love story between old money heirs in Connecticut in which a touch of magic and two cats distract the couple until they finally come to their senses.
Paul Bryant will offer a short nonfiction piece, “Bekurri Kamra,” about his extremely short employment as a member of the cast of a Japanese TV show based on Candid Camera.
Virginia Fortner will read from “A Design of His Own,” the story of adventurer Mike Eaton’s extraordinary life as told to her after his stroke.
Following the readings, members of the audience will have an opportunity to question the writers about their work and writing lives.
The Hawaii Writers Guild is an independent association of professional writers engaged in the promotion of cultural enrichment. The semi-monthly readings are free and open to the public.
