Planet Fitness nears Kona opening

Planet Fitness is scheduled to open its doors in October at 75-1000 Henry Street, on the corner of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Henry Street.

“Hawaii has responded incredibly well to Planet Fitness since we entered the market late last year and we’re excited to bring our Judgment Free fitness experience to the Big Island,” said Planet Fitness franchisee James Innocenti, who owns and operates more than 60 locations, in a press release. “Our gym is geared towards people who may have never joined a gym before, are just getting back into working out, or belong to other fitness centers and looking for a new option. We’re confident that Planet Fitness’ encouraging and hassle-free environment will appeal to the West Hawaii community.”

The new Planet Fitness is 15,000 square feet. The facility will be open and staffed 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

New members can now join for just $1 down and then $10 a month with no commitment through Sept.13 by visiting the pre-sale center located next to Starbucks at 75-1022 Henry Street.

The West Hawaii Small Business Development Center and NELHA will be offering a workshop, Excel Basics from 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Iako, 73-970 Makako Bay Drive, Kailua-Kona, on the NELHA (OTEC) campus.

The primary objective of this class is to make Excel a useful tool for your business. It is specifically for those who have little to no experience with Excel.

Registration is $20 and space is limited. Register online at www.hisbdc.org, click on the Events/Workshops link on the homepage, or call 333-5000 for more information.
