Sharlene Iwalani “Fordays and Aunty Boodo” Kanipae, 66, of Hawi, died Oct. 9, 2018, at Kohala Hospital. Born on June 3, 1952, in Kohala, she was a retired worker for Lone Palm Farm in Kohala and also a member of the Kohala Gospel of Salvation Church in Hawi.
Friends may call on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Kohala Gospel of Salvation Church in Hawi. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m.; funeral service at 11 a.m. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed; burial at Hawi County Cemetery.
She is survived by sisters, Evan Napua Walker and Lynette Leilani Stevens of Hawi, Loretta Ann (Gilbert) Bigtas of Niulii and Sandra Luana (Charles) Stevens of Kona; brothers, Andrew William Kaluahine (Jenny) Stevens of Kapaau; hanai brother, Harold (Jolene) Perez of Halaula, Kohala; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marilyn Sakata
Mrs. Marilyn Sakata, 91, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct.13, 2018, at her residence. Born in Kokomo, Indiana on Feb. 7, 1927, she was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years.
Private services will be held at a later date.
She is survived by her sons, Scott (Ashley) Sakata of Kailua-Kona and Rick (Haleakala) Sakata of Ahualoa; daughter, CarolLyn Sakata of Kailua-Kona; sister-in-law, Masako Sakata of Naalehu; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nephews.

Johanna Maloney
Johanna Elvira Maloney, 89, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 15, 2018 at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Ngawi, Java, Indonesia on May 4, 1929, she was a housewife and resided at the Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona.
Funeral services will be held at Church of St. Timothy’s in Escondido, California.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Dean) Dahl of Valley Center, California, Nancy Maloney of Temecula, California, and Mary (Jack) O’Brien of Kailua-Kona; son, Bryan (Charlotte) Maloney of Phelan, California; sister-in-law, Florence Hansen of Illinois; brother-in-law, Lloyd Swisegood of California 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wayne Gray
Wayne Edward Gray, Sr., 77, of Kailua-Kona, died July 19, 2018, at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center. Born in Halstead, Kansas, on May 24, 1941, he was a retired law enforcement officer. He was a member of the VFW Kailua-Kona and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 26 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Kona at P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI. 96745.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Wolfson. He is survived by his wife, Janet Gray of Captain Cook; sons, Wayne (Takako) Gray Jr. of Yokohama, Japan, and Eric (Gayle) Gray of Oklahoma; daughter, Michelle (Dustin) Craft of Kailua-Kona; hanai daughter, Edna (Jerry) Reischman of Portland, Oregon; brother, Donn Gray of Kansas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

William Beers
William Henry Beers, III, 89, of Waikoloa, died Oct. 10, 2018, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, on March 21, 1929, he was an assistant golf pro. He worked as a teller and loan processor for the former Bishop National Bank, was in property management for the Hawaii Trust Company, a driver and in management for Charles’ and Sida Taxi services, and a salesman and manager for various new and used car dealerships. He was a member of Waikoloa Men’s Golf Club, Oahu County Club and a club championship winner in 1953 and 1955.
No services are planned.
He is survived by his companion, Dee Dee Kosa of Waikoloa; sons, William (Vera) Beers, IV of Raleigh, North Carolina, Edward (Theresa) Beers of Olympia, Washington, Richard Beers of Oregon; daughters: Lisa (Charles) Kirry of Olympia, Washington, Frances Kuulei Beers of Healdburg, California; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brent Matsuda
Brent Blue Keanu Matsuda, of Honokaa, passed away on Sept. 9, 2018, at his home in Kukuihaele. Born in Hilo on June 6, 1991, he lived in Texas where he served in the United States Army. He worked for Allied Security in Waikoloa.
Private services were held. Celebration of life will be 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 27 at Hapuna Beach State Park. Flowers welcomed. Lunch to follow.
He is survived by his wife Javeina Thornton of Kalapana; son Kamana’o Matsuda of Kalapana; father Brent Matsuda of Honokaa; mother Valerie (Derrick) Goo of Kukuihaele; grandmother Mary Davy of Puako; brothers Douglas “Blackie” Matsuda of Honoka’a, John (Chelsa) Fero of Honoka’a, Sisters Mary Rose (Curtis) Anderson of Honoka’a, Alohilani (Hualalai) Keohuloa of Waimea, Kealani Kunewa of Hilo, Leilani (Omar) Salvador of Honoka’a, Meghann (Kieve) Matsuda of Kauai; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Akiko Kushida Oda, 86, of Aiea, passed away on Oct. 1, 2018. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired State of Hawaii Department of Education fifth-grade teacher and reading specialist at Waiakeawaena Elementary School.

Irene Leiko Ikeda Nagata, 87, of Aiea, passed away on Sept.15, 2018. Born in Holualoa, she was a retired intern supervisor for the University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Education.
Visitation is 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Nuuanu Congregational Church in Honolulu; service of celebration at 11 a.m. No flowers, and casual attire is requested.
