Norman Paik

Norman “Norm” Paik, 83, of Keaau, died Nov. 28, 2018 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born on Dec. 18, 1934 in New York, he was an engineer and businessman. He was a founder and CEO of NH Research, Inc. in Santa Ana. He was also a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and member of the Big Island Amateur Radio Club.

No services were held.

He is survived by wife, Kathleen Paik of Keaau; son, Russell (Sandra Marshall) Paik of Texas; brother, William W. (Nancy Linn) Paik of California; granddaughters, Heather Paik of Boston, Massachusetts, Kaitlyn Paik of Los Angeles, California and Devyn Siedle of California; grandson, Nathan Siedle of California; niece, Jacqueline Paik of California.

Matsue Uehara

Matsue Uehara, 87, of Honolulu, died Oct. 6, 2018, in Honolulu. She was born in Kapoho.

Private celebration of life service was held.

She is survived by son, Galen (Lynne) Uehara of Pearl City; daughters, Corinne Uehara of Honolulu, Glenda (Paul) Uyehara of Pearl City, Robyn (Kendrick) Uehara-Tom of Pearl City; sister, Kinuye Lawton of San Diego, California; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Harry Kamalii

Harry Keawe Kamalii, Jr., 69, of Pahoa, died Nov. 19, 2018 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a truck driver with Mihara Transfer Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. funeral service. Friends may also call 9 a.m. Dec. 14 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for a graveside committal service. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by his companion, Norma Jean Purdy of Pahoa; daughter, Dee Dee (Michael) George of Kapolei; son, Harry John Keawe Kamalii, III of Hilo; brothers, Henry Kamalii and Barry Kamalii, both of Hilo; sisters, Leatrice Kamalii, Marilyn Kamalii and Jolana (Ryan Fukui) Colobong, all of Hilo; aunt, Helen Kamalii of Hilo; two grandsons; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Florentino Gomez

Florentino Gomez, Jr., of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, died Dec. 3, 2018 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Germany on March 27, 1957, he was an auto mechanic. He was a member of Kai O Pua Canoe Club, official member of Hui Makai Motorcycle Club and a guest rider of Mo’opuna O’ Hawaii Motorcycle Club Bikers for Christ.

Private services were held.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Gomez of California; daughter, Jennifer Gomez of Colorado; brother, Johnny (Susan) Gomez of Florida; sisters, Gabby (Richard) Lee of North Carolina, Carmen Gomez of Carson City, Nevada, Rita (Rick) Sanders of Bellevue, Nebraska, Margrate (Stephen) Gomez-Krug of Hartwick, Iowa, and Sandra (Ty) Barrett-Gomez of Burien, Washington; several uncles and an aunt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Momoe Yamamoto

Momoe Yamamoto, 93, of Honokaa, died Dec. 2, 2018 at a private care home in Honokaa. Born in Kukuihaele, she was a retired head accountant for the former Hamakua Sugar Company, member of the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission and Kamuela Hongwanji Mission and its Buddhist Women’s Associations.

Friends may call 10–11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission; funeral service at 11. Casual attire.

Survived by son, Keith Yamamoto of Honolulu; sister, Jane (Shiro) C. Higaki of Oahu; two sisters-in-law; a granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
