Isamu Maedo

Isamu Maedo, 96, of Hilo, died Nov. 20, 2018, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Ninole, he was the retired owner of the former Maedo Guava Farm, retired from the University of Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station as an agricultural research technician and member of Toho No Hikari (Church of World Messianity), Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hui Okinawa and HGEA.

Private services were held.

He is survived by sons, Clifford Maedo of Hilo, Dale Maedo of Kapolei, Oahu; daughter, Ann Maedo of Hilo; brothers, Minoru (Doris) Maedo and Shigeo Maedo of California; sister, Betty (Matsuo) Okamoto of Kaneohe, Oahu; caregiver, Arcelie Weaver of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

David Hubbard

David Lewis Hubbard, 62, of Pepeekeo, died Dec. 2, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 25, 1956, in Colorado, he was a fine artist and philosopher on life.

Friends may gather at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at Hilo Fine Art Center in Keaau, 16-643 Kipimana St., Suite 14, for a memorial service.

He is survived by mother, Wilma L. Hubbard; brothers, Steven L. Hubbard and Ronald L. (Sandra) Hubbard; eight nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Carol Ewing

Carol June Callison Ewing, 71, of Hilo died Nov. 1, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in 1947 in Hammond, Ind., she was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship, a parent community networking facilitator at Hilo Union School, sole proprietor of The Plant Lady: Green Plant Rentals, secretary for the Indiana State Police Department, clerk typist at Kulani Correctional Facility, and an avid crafter and gardener.

Private services to be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughter, Kimberly Callison.
