For the eighth consecutive season, the Warriors (10-4) and Ka Makani (12-1-1) will match up in the title game, with this encounter set for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kamehameha’s Paiea Stadium.
The Warriors finally broke through in the 2018 final, winning in penalty kicks to end Ka Makani’s eight-year reign, but matters have since turned back decidedly in favor of HPA, which rebounded a week later to beat Kamehameha to win its fifth consecutive state title last season.
Ka Makani’s 10-game winning streak this season includes two victories against the Warriors: 2-1 on Dec. 22 at home and 5-o on the road Jan. 12.
As was anticipated, neither team had much trouble in Monday’s semifinals.
In Waimea, Malia Brost recorded a hat trick and Angela Cipriano scored her team-leading 15th and 16th goals of the season as HPA needed just 43 minutes to beat Honokaa 9-0.
Bella Police, Catie Moynahan, Alianna West and Riley Sohriakoff also scored, while Maia Mills and Regan Riley each had a hand in the shutout of the Dragons (3-10-1), who lost in the semis against HPA for the fifth consecutive season.
At Paiea Stadium, Kaila Ambrosio scored her 13th and 14th goals as the Warriors beat Makua Lani, 5-0, in the semifinals for the fifth consecutive season.
Roycie Faye and Chenoa Frederick staked Kamehameha to an early lead, Nanea Wong Yuen added a goal late, and Kaylia Galindo was in goal for the shutout of the Lions (5-8-1).
Makua Lani will play Honokaa in the BIIF third place match at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Paiea for a spot in the state tournament.
