Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble returns for March concerts
Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble will perform two chamber music concerts this weekend.
Ohrlando’s will guide the audience from the classical through the romantique period to one of the most outstanding oboe solo pieces in the 20th century, a selection of the magical “Six Metamorphoses after Ovid” by Benjamin Britten. A sonata by the Bohemian composer Jan Baptist Vanhal, a musician well respected by Mozart and Beethoven, and a reconstructed fragment by the young Beethoven will be heard. The program includes a French concours piece by Eugene Bourdeau, an American composition by Arthur Foote and a Wagner-inspired impression by Fritz Mareczek.
The first concert is at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Queen Emma Community Center at Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua, followed by a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at a private residence in Kailua-Kona. The concerts feature Roland Maurer on oboe, English horn and bassoon, and Ursula Hesse on piano.

John Kadlecik to perform at Laverne’s tonight
Singer-songwriter John Kadlecik will perform at Laverne’s Sports Bar at 8 p.m. tonight as a stop on his four-show Hawaii tour.
An original member of Dark Star Orchestra, he is primarily known as a guitar-slinging sideman to Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir in the band Further.
Kadlecik will also be performing at Lava Shack in Pahoa on Friday, and Hilo Town Tavern on Saturday.

Register for spring art camp at SKEA
Children ages 6-11 can have fun and explore their creative side at Spring Art Camp. Painting, drawing, mask making, clay projects, multimedia art projects, and cooperative games in the yard will make up five days of enriching experiences.
The camp runs Monday through Friday, March 22. Tuition is $145 plus a current SKEA membership ($35).

Take a pastel on-site landscape painting workshop at VAC
Enjoy the outdoors and take your painting beyond the four walls of a classroom in the Pastel On-Site Landscape Painting Workshop with Patti Pease Johnson from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.
You’ll receive step by step instruction in a proven rotational method for success, starting with form and fill, moving to value of black and white, then color. Your own natural style is brought to the surface. All materials will be supplied along with guidance and inspiration for your creative journey.
Weather permitting, the workshop will take place outdoors at Niaulani.
Cost for the workshop is $50 and $45 for VAC Members plus a $10 supply fee per person. Beginner and intermediate artists are welcome.

Join Tom Peek for “Writing for Inner Exploration and Life Reflection” from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.
