History Theatre for Mother’s Day

Kona Historical Society presents a Mother’s Day performance from Hawaiian Mission Houses on Sunday, May 12. This free History Theatre event will feature portrayals of characters from Hawaii Island who played an important role in Hawaii’s history. The program will include three performances in the pasture behind Kona Historical Society’s Kalukalu headquarters in Kealakekua.

As part of this very special Mother’s Day celebration, light refreshments will be provided. The society is pleased to partner with Hawaiian Mission Houses for this special event, and invites Kona residents to enjoy a delightful afternoon experiencing Hawaii’s history brought to life in a beautiful outdoor venue.

Hamakua Harvest Farm Festival May 19

Hamakua Harvest’s fourth annual Farm Festival takes place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19 at intersection of Mamane Street and Mamalahoa Highway in Honokaa. The festivities feature more than 35 vendors in a farmers market and an all-day lineup of entertainment including a petting zoo, a silent auction, educational presentations, yard games, keiki activities, and ono food.

Farm Fest is the first Sunday in Western Week, a 60-year Honokaa community tradition including the Hawaii Saddle Club Rodeo, Paniolo Parade, Block Party, Saloon Girl Contest, and other activities celebrating Paniolo culture and history on Hawaii Island.

Come support local farmers, hang out, listen to local musicians, meet neighborhood farmers and ranchers, and taste a variety of the Hamakua region’s artisanal food.
