Meet the author of ‘Notch, the Rescued Dolphin’

The Kailua-Kona Public Library will host Martina Wing, author of “Notch, the Rescued Dolphin,” from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Once upon a time in Kona, a beautiful wild dolphin approached humans, in need of help escaping a fishing line. The dolphin waited patiently while divers freed him.

Martina Wing, co-owner of “Manta Ray Advocates” and the underwater camerawoman who documented the amazing encounter, was inspired by her video’s online virality to share this uplifting, educational story with children through the picture book.

Dive into the story of Notch with the author, and learn more about the importance of conservation and environmental protection during Saturday’s event. Copies of Martina’s book will be on sale at the end of the program for $20 (cash payment only).

This program is suitable for keiki ages 5 through 11 years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries, Kona (F.O.L.K.).

The PG film tells a surprising tale about growing up, finding the courage to face the unknown and how nothing can ever train you to let go. What began as an unlikely friendship between an adolescent Viking and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has become an epic trilogy spanning their lives.
