Edward Staniec

Edward “Eddie” Daniel Staniec III, 54, of Waimea, died July 10, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Feb. 28, 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was a gas station attendant, waiter, maintenance man, car wash/gas station attendant, certified nurses aide, and security guard.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. July 27 at Imiola Congregational Church; service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by parents, Edward Jr. and Leila Staniec of Waimea; brother, Jeffery (Melissa) Staniec of Cumming, Georgia and James Kimura of Cumming, Georgia; nieces, Leila Rose Staniec of Cumming, Georgia, Malia Leigh Staniec of Cumming, Georgia and Keile Kimura of Cumming, Georgia; nephew, Kimo Kimura of Cumming, Georgia; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Francisco Ramos

Francisco “Frank” “Cisco” Ramos, 70, of Hilo, died Feb. 4, 2019, on Oahu. Born Nov. 20, 1948, in Wahiawa, he was a retired nuclear inspector for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.

A military service will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 25 at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl); interment to follow. Casual/Hawaiian attire and no flowers.

He is survived by life partner and fiancée, Lorna Hanamoto of Hilo; brothers, Alfredo Ramos Jr. of Oahu and Juan Ramos of Oahu; sisters, Julia Aque of Oahu and Gloria Hipolito of Maryland; half-brother, Alejandro (Masa) Vea of Kauai; brother-in-law, Christopher Pedro of Oahu; sisters-in-law, Flora Vea of Kauai and Carlina Vea of Kauai; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Rowland Ignacio

Rowland Pelekane Ignacio, 37, of Waikoloa, died June 12, 2019, at home. Born Nov. 11, 1981, in Hilo, he was a courier driver for UPS.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at Kuhio Hale Hawaiian Homes Hall, 64-756 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Dorian Pelekane Ignacio of Hilo and Ezekiel Kaulanamakanaokahaku Mareko of Las Vegas, Nevada; mother, Louise Pelekane Ignacio of Washington; brother, Baba Ignacio Jr. of Honokaa; sisters, Ramona Flores of Washington, Romeilyn (Ray) Hirayama of Kawaihae and Romelda (Brad) Tabudlo of Waikoloa; hanai sister, Rhonda (Leighton) Bell of Kapaau.

Claire Yahata

Claire Michiko Yahata, 92, of Hilo died June 26, 2019, at a private care home. Born in Dairen, Manchuria, she was a retired postal clerk at the Pahala Post Office and a member of the Konko Mission of Hilo.

Survived by son, Craig Yahata of San Luis Obispo, California; brothers, Masahiro (Carol) Nishida of Hilo, Kanehiro (Helen) Nishida of Ewa Beach; sisters, Hiroko Arisumi of Honolulu, Terry (Ronald) Petersen of Honolulu, Kiyoko Nakamoto of Hilo; sister-in-law, Sharon Nishida of Honolulu; caregiver, Grace Andres of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Stanley Joaquin Sr

Stanley Alcoran Joaquin Sr., 60, of Honokaa, died July 4, 2019, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. He was born in Honokaa and was a senior cane truck driver with the former Honokaa Sugar Plantation, a landscaper for 18 years at the Mauna Lani Resort, and most recently a produce clerk at Foodland Farms at Mauna Lani. He was also a member of the Hamakua Jaycees, president of the Hamakua Archery Club and Mauna Lani Archery Club and was the lead singer of the Hamakua Braddas.

Visitation 8-10 a.m. July 27 at the King’s Chapel in Honokaa (off of Ahualoa Road). A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Norma Joaquin of Honokaa; sons, Stanley (Cheyenne) Joaquin Jr. of Paauilo and Stanton (Liane) Joaquin of Mountain View; hanai sons, Kanale-Shane (Anela Laa) Guerpo-Joaquin of Honokaa and Gavin (Scarlett) Roque of Paauilo; daughters, Sion Joaquin of Honokaa, Stancey (Stansen) Joaquin-Cosare, Alice Hauoli of Hilo and Kamomi Villaverde-Joaquin of Kona; brothers, Dennis Joaquin of Kona, Patrick (Bernie) Joaquin, Robin (Momi) Lorenzo of Honokaa and Lazaro (Daria) Joaquin of Hilo; sisters, Julie (Myron) Kidani of Paauilo and Fidela (Thomas) Long of Honokaa; 12 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

LaVerne Morikami

LaVerne Lokelani Muller Ohashi Morikami, 88, of Keaau, died June 8, 2019, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. She was born in Waialua, Oahu, and was a field laborer with the Keaau Banana Plantation.

Private services held with a celebration of life at a later date. No koden (monetary donations).

She is survived by daughters, Charlotte (Michael) Borges of Las Vegas, Charlene (David) Chock of Hilo and Clareen (Ben) Alonzo of Keaau; step-son, Francis (Winifred) Morikami of Hilo; step-daughters, Candace Lee, Joyce Fleming of San Diego and Lorna Wilson of Hilo; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward Tavares

Edward “ET” Tavares, 89, of Hilo, died July 14, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Dec. 24, 1929, in Hilo, he was a retired salesperson for Big Island Toyota. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo; the Portuguese Cultural Club; the Foresters Court Mauna Kea #8854; and the Y.M.I.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. July 29 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. July 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo; funeral Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Section 7. Casual attire.

He is survived by daughters, Yvonne (Robert) Bailey of Kurtistown, Debby (Gerald) Powell of Hilo, Jojo (Jeff) Lemon of Puna and Cathy (Bully) Costa of Kurtistown; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Manuwa

Barbara Kaleiohawaii Manuwa, 85, of Hilo, died July 10, 2019, in a private care home. Born Feb. 17, 1934, in Hilo, she was a housewife.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo; memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by sons, William Manuwa Jr. of Hilo, Wendell (Nora) Manuwa of Arizona and Wade Manuwa of West Virginia; daughter, Kaleo (Shannon) Warfield of Waimea (Big Island); brother, Miles (Rosalyn) Ioane of Arizona; sister, Noelani Kapuni of Hilo; three grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Janet Miyose

Janet Mieko Miyose, 93, of Kona, died July 17, 2019, at home. Born in Kainaliu, she was a coffee and mango farmer, a retired housekeeper for Kona Hospital and former member of the Holualoa Kumiai.

Private family services will be held. No koden (monetary gifts) please.

She is survived by daughters, Colleen Miyose Wallis, Diane (Fred) Holschuh, Evelyn (Jay Tomokiyo) Miyose and Fern (Ray) Sapanara; sister, Matsuko Matsuda; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
