Rockwood putting on exhibition tonight
Kona Oceanfront Gallery is hosting the return of Kailua-Kona’s own legendary ink master, Rockwood, who will making a rare public art exhibition at Kona Oceanfront Gallery from 5-9 p.m. tonight.
Known as the preferred tattoo artist to the stars and owning the No. 1 Ink Studio on the Big Island, Rockwood has created art for many famous rock stars and celebrities including Cher, Madonna, Heather Locklear, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crew and Bret Michaels from Poison — just to name a few.
Rockwood will giving live painting demonstrations and creating one-of-a-kind originals right before guests’ eyes. He will also be unveiling his new line of original master pieces.
This special one-night only event will be sponsored by Lava 105.3 and Kona Brewing Company, which will providing free spirits and pupus for all that attend this exciting art exhibition.

New jazz duo to perform at Red Water Café
Every Thursday at the Red Water Café in Waimea, jazz pianist Gary Washburn with Elizabeth Sekona Robinson on violin will perform from 6-9 p.m.
Robinson is Washburn’s former student, a classically-trained violinist who now plays with the University of Hawaii-Hilo Jazz Orchestra. As a duo, they bring superb musicianship together with creative, cool vibes across a range of genres.
Born and raised on Hawaii Island, Robinson has been playing violin most of her life. She received eleven years of classical training under Ursula Vietze-Koehler, during which time she won the annual Madeline Schatz-Harris Youth Concerto Competition twice.
Musician, composer, and educator, Washburn is something of a musical hero on Hawaii Island, where he has directed the Honokaa Jazz Band for 40 years. In that time, he has received a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award, been inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, named a Living Treasure in Hawaii, and helped the school achieve an award from the Grammy Foundation in 2011.

HVNP presents post-fire recovery and restoration
“Post-Fire Recovery and Restoration at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park,” presented by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park botanist Sierra McDaniel from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, will describe how a fire that ignited near the park during the Kilauea crisis of 2018 consumed thousands of acres but was suppressed by people from local organizations, with constructive as well as destructive consequences.
