Vernon Hasegawa

Vernon Koji Hasegawa, 80, of Pepeekeo, died Aug. 15, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 19, 1939, in Pepeekeo, he was retired from Servco Pacific and was a U.S Air Force veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by brother, Ronald (Mae) Hasegawa of Pearl City, Oahu; uncles, Kikuo (Marilyn) Hasegawa, Seiya Hasegawa; aunt, Akime Hiwatashi; a niece and nephews.

Kathrine Brown

Kathrine Louisa Brown, 41, of Volcano, died July 6, 2019, in Hilo. Born Jan. 9, 1978, in Honolulu, she was a supervisor for United Parcel Service in Jacksonville, Fla.

Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel on Oahu for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Casual attire and flowers are welcome Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. Mililani Mortuary Cemetery (Oahu).

She is survived by children, Kainoa Whitworth Brown and Alaina Whitworth Brown of Hawaii, Grayson Faumuina-Brown, Bryson Faumuina-Brown, Sophia Faumuina-Brown and Bentley Faumuina-Brown of Jacksonville, Fla.; father, Mikaele Faumuina of American Samoa; mother, Marilyn Dela Cruz Mohamed of Big Island of Hawaii; brothers, Mikaele Faumuina, Jr., Manuel Faumuina, Alexander (Erena) Faumuina and Anthony (Helen) Faumuina of Hawaii; sisters, Louise (Teri’i) Nakaahiki, Sherry Ann Faumuina Watkins, Christina (Alonzo) Everett and Mechia-Ree Faumuina of Hawaii; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Masawo Narimatsu

Masawo “Masa” Narimatsu, 92, of Pahala, died Aug. 17, 2019, at Ka’u Hospital in Pahala. Born April 22, 1927, in Pahala, he was retired from the former Ka’u Sugar Company and a U.S. Army veteran.

Friends may call at noon Sept. 9, 2019 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2 for a graveside urn committal service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by numerous cousins.

Pedro Dominguez

Pedro Domingo Dominguez, 97, of Honomu, died Aug. 2, 2019, at home. Born on May 28, 1922, in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he retired from Hilo Coast Processing Company as a heavy equipment operator.

Friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10:30 a.m. funeral service. Casual attire, burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Section 7.

He is survived by wife, Feliza Dominguez of Honomu; daughters, Bernadette (Wendell) Kelii, Becky Dominguez and Krystel (David) Ua, Jr. from Hilo, Barbara Kiser of Honolulu; sons, Alfredo (Sal Hagiwara) Yamongan, Jr. of Hilo, Ronald Dominguez of Colorado Springs and Anthony (Melani) Dominguez of Keaau; sister, Angeles Helen Quinto of Philippines; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law.

Mercy Silva

Mercy Alice Leilani (Sextimo) Silva, 62, of Kailua-Kona, died May 27, 2019, at home. Born Sept. 16, 1956, in Hilo, she was a homemaker, and a volunteer worker for the Hale ‘O Kipa Senior Center in Kona.

A celebration of life to be held from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Onekahakaha Beach Park, pavilion No. 6. A celebration of life in Kona will be announced at a later date.

She is survived by brothers, Agapito Abraham Sextimo Jr.; sisters, Kathleen Waiolani (George) Kaheiki, and Beatrice Leina’ala Sextimo, numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
