Hula celebration Oct. 26 at Hulihee Palace lawn
Kumu Hula Iwalani Kalima, and Kumu Hula Naomi Apolo, are helping put on an event, “Hula is Aloha, Hula is Hawai’i – He Hali’a Aloha No Lanakilakeikiahiali’I,” in celebration of beloved Kumu Hula, George Naope.
The free celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Hulihee Palace lawn.
Come and bring a mat or beach chair and enjoy a day full of hula and music from various halau, multiple musicians, craft vendors and more.
Sing and Dance for Peace gathering on Sunday
Sing and Dance for Peace and experience spiritual ecstasy from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday at the New Thought Center in Kealakekua.
The Dances of Universal Peace are participatory simple circle dances and songs drawn from the earth’s sacred traditions, and other universal songs of peace. Dress casual, no previous experience or dance partner needed.

Blue Sea Artisans featured artist: Chad Gray
The Blue Sea Artisans featured artist for the month of October is wood artist Chad Gray.
From the time Chad Gray took his first art class in middle school, he’s always had an eye for seeing something and being able to recreate it with his own style. Over the years, he let my art take a back seat while he built a life with his wife and three children. He always knew his art would be there when the time was right. Now that his children are older and he has a successful Drywall business, the time is perfect for him to explore his artistic side.
Gray, a longtime resident of Hawaii, finds inspiration on the island daily, from the palm trees swaying in our tropical breezes to the glistening ocean. To capture the colors of Hawaii and its beautiful natural woods, he utilize excess pieces of various woods from other trades on construction sites that otherwise would be discarded into the landfill.
To meet wood artist and learn more about his process in creating his unique art, he is working at the gallery Oct 26, located in the Keauhou Shopping Center, Courtyard, 78-6831 Alii Dr.

A rare gathering of beautiful Maui superstars Napua Greig, Amy Hanaiali’i and Raiatea Helm, will make history as they perform together for two divine shows at the Kahilu Theatre.
The first is at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 followed by a 2 p.m. Sunday Oct. 20 show.

Nakai Quartet hits Waimea stage Oct. 18
R. Carlos Nakai Quartet’s hip-shaking expansion into the Jazz/R&B realm will be on full display 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
Mixing original compositions with inspired improvisation, the R. Carlos Nakai Quartet features R. Carlos Nakai on Native American flute, concert flute, trumpet, and vocals, backed by a talented trio of musicians.
Will Clipman will be on drums, Johnny Walker, bass guitar and AmoChip Dabney, sax and keyboards.
Their music spans the sonic spectrum, from quietly contemplative to highly combustible and from soothingly meditative to irresistibly danceable, always delivered with an impeccable blend of rhythm, melody, and harmony and a positive vibration.
Nakai brought the flute into the concert hall, performing with over 15 symphony and chamber orchestras and in a cross-cultural foray, Nakai performed extensively with the Wind Travelin’ Band, a traditional Japanese ensemble from Kyoto which resulted in an album, Island of Bows.
Nakai has received 11 Grammy Award nominations throughout his career.

October music at Habitat Waimea ReStore
The monthly music series at Habitat Hawaii Island’s Waimea ReStore continues with a performance by island band, “The Jamahz,” at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Enjoy the trio’s blend of old soul classic rhythm and blues, feel good island music.
The monthly music series is a fundraising event for Habitat’s Matching Fund Challenge. Tickets are $10 (children 12 and under are free) and are available at the Waimea ReStore. Tacos and pizza will be available for purchase and you’ll get to shop at the ReStore, too.
