Service times for John August Cardoza, 84, of Papaaloa, who died Sept. 26, 2019 at his residence, were incorrect in an obituary published this week.

Friends may call from 8-9 a.m. Oct. 12 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe for a 9 a.m. celebration of life Mass. Casual attire, flowers and lei are welcomed. Burial is to follow at the Church Cemetery with military honors at 10 a.m.

Barry Taniguchi

Barry Koji Taniguchi, 72, of Hilo, died Sept. 20, 2019, at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born March 21, 1947, in Hilo, he was the chairman of the Board and CEO of KTA Super Stores on the island of Hawaii.

Visitation will be 8-11 a.m. Oct. 18 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, 398 Kilauea Ave. Memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Sandra Taniguchi of Hilo; sons, Toby (Charlynn) Taniguchi of Waimea and Ryan Taniguchi of Tacoma, Wash.; daughters, Tracy (Aaron) Taniguchi-Yamasaki of Hilo, Terri (Scott) Hayashi of Hilo and Amanda Taniguchi of Seattle; brother, Lon (Lisbeth) Taniguchi of Hilo; sister, Maryan (Stanley) Ahn-Taniguchi of Hilo; parents-in-law; one brother-in-law; numerous grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and a great-granddaughter.

Monica Keahilihau

Monica Leilani “Moose Smith” Keahilihau 65, die Oct. 1, 2019, at Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born on August 26, 1963 in Hilo.

A celebration of life potluck will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at Waiolena Uli Beach Park (before Liliiwi.) Casual attire. Leis, flowers, and music are welcome. Scattering on a later date.

Monica is survived by her hanai sister, Melanie (Clinton Mehau) Sugahara of Hilo; her mother-in-law; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Hiroko Rances

Hiroko Abe Rances, 85, of Hilo, died Sept. 28, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born April 12, 1934, in Hiroshima, Japan, she was a housewife and a seamstress while living in Seattle.

Private services were held.

She is survived by all other family members from Japan; a brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Roger Auna

Roger Keonoono Auna, 71, of Honokaa died Sept. 22, 2019, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. He was born in Honokaa and was a retired house attendant with the former Hapuna Beach Prince Resort.

Visitation 3-5 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers.
