A 66-year-old Captain Cook man is in police custody on suspicion of murder following a shooting incident Tuesday evening that left a 45-year-old man dead.
At 9:09 p.m. Tuesday, Kona patrol officers responded to a reported shooting in the 83-5000 block of Middle Keei Road in Captain Cook, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers located a man with an injury consistent with a gunshot, police said. The victim was later pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.
Police said his name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next-of-kin. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police arrested 66-year-old James Bonham Captain Cook was arrested at the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder, according the the department. Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Criminal Investigation Division Captain Thomas Shopay said a firearm was recovered from the scene, and they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
