The state Department of Health reported one new positive case of COVID-19 on Hawaii Island as of noon Saturday, but also subtracted one case reported Friday.
Since Feb. 28, some 639 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus with 572 of those people having since recovered and been released from isolation, according to the Department of Health.
On Hawaii Island, 76 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus since Feb. 28. Just one person remained in isolation as of noon Friday, according to the department. One person has required hospitalization. Friday’s new cases was the first for the county since May 4. DOH reported Saturday that case was removed from the total, but another case has been added, keeping the total at 76. Hawaii County Civil Defense attributed the removed case to a false positive. For several days this week, no active cases had been reported.
Meanwhile, case totals for Oahu increased by one to 415 while Maui and Kauai counties remained at 115 and 21, respectively. Ten of the cases are Hawaii residents diagnosed outside the state of Hawaii.
Statewide, the coronavirus-related death toll stands at 17 — 11 on Oahu and six on Maui.
Hawaii has been under a statewide stay-at-home order since the last week of March to slow the spread of the disease. Since the same week, it has also been requiring all those arriving in the state and traveling between the islands to observe 14 days of quarantine. The now-termed “safer-at-home” order remains in effect through the end of May.
