Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Sunday morning fire that destroyed a home in Honokaa.

Responding to the 9:10 a.m. report, firefighters arrived at 45-579 Opuhe Road to find a “heavily involved” residential structure fire, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. All the residents of the home had safely exited prior to their arrival.

The department said the fire was difficult to extinguish due to dense vegetation preventing access and split-level construction. A detached carport and vehicle were saved.

The fire was declared out at 12:30 p.m., according to the department.

No injuries were reported.
