Virtual ‘Coffee with a Cop’ Thursday
The Hawaii Police Department’s Kona Community Policing section will hold a virtual “Coffee with a Cop” on Thursday.
The online meeting will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. via the Google Meets app. The event will be limited to the space availability afforded through the app. Officers will be providing a virtual code to access their meeting and time slots will be allotted in 20-minute increments.

Last day to mail in voted ballots is Oct. 27
Hawaii County reminds registered voters to mail in their voted general election ballots no later than Oct. 27.
After that date, voted ballots may be delivered through Nov. 3 at one of the drop box locations around the island. Drop boxes will be open 24 hours a day at the Waimea Police Station, Rodney Yano Memorial Hall, Pahoa Police Station, Naalehu Police Station, West Hawaii Civic Center, Hilo County Building, North Kohala Police Station and Laupahoehoe Police Station.
In-person voting will be available at the voter service centers located at Aupuni Center in Hilo and West Hawaii Civic Center Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting Tuesday through Nov. 2.
On Election Day, which is Nov. 3, the voter service centers will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Game bird hunting season opens Nov. 7
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife announces the opening of the 2020-21 Game Bird Hunting Season on Nov. 7.
The fall game bird hunting season will run through Jan. 31. To comply with federal mandates, including the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and to meet current state regulations, the last day for hunting mourning dove will be Jan. 17. A valid hunting license and a game bird stamp are required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands.

Privately owned lands are open to game bird hunting on weekends, state holidays and Wednesdays and Thursdays for Units A, G, PTA and private lands during the regular game bird season, with landowner permission.
Hunters are urged to prevent wildfires by not parking or driving in tall grass or brush. Fires should be reported immediately to 911.

Konawaena announces centennial plans
Konawaena High School will be turning 100 years old October 2021. The countdown now begins for their centennial celebration.
“I’m looking forward to having our community come together to celebrate this amazing milestone,” said Principal Shawn Suzuki.
The Konawaena Centennial Committee has three major events planned that include exclusive tours of the campus, a green and white formal night and a hoolaulea. The events will be held Oct. 15 and 16, 2021.
As they countdown to the centennial event, lookout for fundraising events happening throughout the year. Currently, the committee is selling a cookbook with family recipes from many Konawaena alumni. Preorders are being accepted through the Black Friday weekend in November.
