DOH reports 6 new COVID-19 cases on Hawaii Island

Health officials on Tuesday reported six new cases of COVID-19 on Hawaii Island, bringing the island’s total case count to 1,605.

The new Hawaii Island cases were among 44 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health bringing the total case tally to 17,968 since Feb. 28. Oahu reported 32 new cases while Maui County reported five. One resident was diagnosed outside the state.

Statewide, 56 people were hospitalized Tuesday, including one Hawaii Island. To date, 1,291 people have required hospitalization, including 78 on Hawaii Island.

No new coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed and reported by the state Tuesday. Of the 244 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 190 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, 34 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Two deaths were among residents outside the state.

Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported a total of 49 coronavirus-related fatalities on Hawaii Island, noting Tuesday that none of the deaths have occurred in the past two weeks.

The state has yet to confirm 15 of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island and has not responded to repeated requests for information on pending cases.
