11 new COVID-19 cases reported on Hawaii Island; state confirms seven prior deaths as coronavirus-related

Eleven new cases of COVID-19 were reported Friday on Hawaii Island, bringing the island’s total case count to 1,623.

The new Hawaii Island case was among 106 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health bringing the total case tally to 18,290 since Feb. 28. Oahu reported 73 new cases while Maui County reported 15 and Kauai three. Four residents were diagnosed outside the state.

As a result of updated information, one case on the Big Island was dropped from the counts. Hawaii County has a 1.3% test positivity rate, under the statewide rate of 1.7%.

Statewide, 51 people were hospitalized Friday, including one on Hawaii Island. To date, 1,352 people have required hospitalization, including 79 on Hawaii Island.

Ten new coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed and reported by the state Friday. Seven were on Hawaii Island and three were on Oahu. The seven Hawaii island deaths were residents of a long-term care facility and died in October, officials said.

Of the 256 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 195 were on Oahu, 17 were on Maui, 41 were on Hawaii Island and one on Kauai. Two deaths were among residents outside the state.

Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported a total of 49 coronavirus-related fatalities on Hawaii Island. The state has yet to confirm eight of the deaths reported to date on Hawaii Island and has not responded to repeated requests for information on pending cases.
