Fire hydrant flow test could impact water service

The Department of Water Supply will be conducting a fire hydrant flow test along Kaiminani Drive late Tuesday.

The affected area may experience slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours after the test scheduled from 11 p.m. Tuesday until midnight Wednesday. Customers are advised to refrain from washing clothes and to store a container of water for their drinking needs until the supply of water is restored to normal.

Customers who experience unusual problems during or after the flushing period, should call Darren Okimoto, District Supervisor, at (808) 322-0600.

State and county parks will close early Thursday

West Hawaii state parks and all county parks will close early Thursday to discourage the use of fireworks at the sites.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources State Parks Division will be closing Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, Kiholo State Park Reserve and Kekaha Kai State Park (Mahai’ula and Kua Bay sections) early at 5 p.m.

Hawaii County said it will close its facilities at 5 p.m. Thursday as well.

“We are closing the beach parks early to discourage the use of fireworks, which are prohibited except upon written permission, and to protect the public and natural resources of our beach parks,” said Maurice Messina, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The parks will resume their normal hours Friday.
