Ronald Faust

Ronald Alexander Faust, 67, of Kona, died Jan. 28, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 13, 1953, in Vallejo, CA, he was a paving superintendent.

He is survived by sons, Ronald (Jessica) Faust II of Reno, Nevada, and Adam (Sarah) Faust of Salem, OR; daughter, Aime Faust of Oregon; father, Robert Faust of Nevada; brother, Robert Faust of Ocean View; and eight grandchildren.

Irene Kaneo

Irene “Luka” R. Kaneo, 91, of Honokaa, died Feb. 11, 2021, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Feb. 8, 1930, in Waimea, she was retired from Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Honokaa Ward.

Friends may call between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo. A private funeral service follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Leila Kunishige and Wanda (Talan) Parel, all of Honokaa, and Kaylene (Leroy) Alip of Paauhau; sons, George Gamayo of Paauilo, and Darren (Darde) Gamayo of Honokaa; sisters, Daisy Ikeuchi of Honokaa, Winona Tanaka of Hilo, and Roseline Ho of Honolulu; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter Kanda

Walter Yukio Kanda, 76, of Honokaa, died Feb. 19, 2021, at his residence. Born in Kohala, he was a retired athletic director with Honokaa High School, a member of the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission and played for the Kupuna Softball League.

He is survived by wife, Beverly Kanda of Honokaa; sons, Scott Kanda of Honokaa and Steven Kanda of Renton, WA; daughter, Sherry (Fred) Agdeppa of Honokaa; brother, Larry (Hattie) Kanda of Honolulu; sister, Elaine Sumida of Hilo; two granddaughters; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Emilio Berido

Emilio Nicolas Berido, 95, of Hilo, died Feb. 27, 2021, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in the Philippines, he was a retired stack operator with the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., a member of the Fil-Am Bowling League and the ILWU.

Calvin John Shultis, 65, of Keaau, died Feb. 10, 2021, in Hilo. Born in 1955 in Houma, LA, he was a carpenter.

Jacqueline Kalehua Goldstein, 64, of Hilo, died Feb. 25, 2021, at her residence. Born in 1957 in Honolulu, she was a homemaker.

Born Aug. 16, 1938, in Honolulu, she was a retired secretary for the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) Beaumont Agricultural Research Center, secretary and treasurer of Wilbert Lau, Inc. and a member and past trustee of the United Community Church in Hilo, Komohana Gardens Association and Hawaii Government Employees Association (HGEA) Bowling League.

Arthur “Atta” Michael Ronolo, 69, of Hilo, died Feb. 9, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 26, 1951, in Hilo, he was a retired electrician for Hawaii Electric Light Co. (HELCO) and a member of the American Poolplayers Association, the Billiard Congress of America and the Kua’aina Hawaii Kupuna Softball League.

Elvira Paiva

Elvira “Vera” Melendres Paiva, 71, of Hilo died Feb. 25, 2021, in Hilo. Born in Pahala, she was a retired licensed practical nurse at the Hilo Medical Center and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Eloise Kaleiomilikaa Swain, 94, of Hilo, died Feb. 26, 2021, at home. Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Papaaloa, she was retired from Bank of Hawaii and a member of Hula Halau Na Wahine a Na Kane Punahele ‘o ka Pu’uwai and Kamana Senior Center.

Esperanza Tolentino

Esperanza Domingo Tolentino, 94, of Keaau, died Feb. 19, 2021, at her residence. Born on Maui, she was a retired dietary aide at Kula Hospital and a member of the Kamana hanafuda class.
