The Big Island’s COVID-19 case count increased to 2,317 Friday with 15 new cases reported.
Statewide, a total of 66 new cases were reported Friday by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 30 of those cases, Maui County 21 and Kauai none. Four residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 28,145 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Big Island on Friday had a 1.61% test positivity rate, above the statewide rate of 1.2%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 80 cases or an average of 8.7 cases per day. The majority of those cases have been in West Hawaii with 25 reported in the Kailua-Kona area in the past 14 days. The Hilo area has reported 13.
Statewide, 31 people were hospitalized Friday, two of whom were receiving care on the Big Island. To date, 2,243 people have required hospitalization, including 117 on the Big Island.
One new coronavirus-related death was reported on Friday by the state among an Oahu resident. Of the 449 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 357 were on Oahu, 35 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
No deaths have been reported on the Big Island this year.
