Big Island police Wednesday identified the man who died April 30 after officers and Hawaii Fire Department personnel responded to Kailua Pier to a report of a person in need of medical attention.

Stephen Lacey, 73, of Kailua-Kona, died at Kona Community Hospital after being transported by medics from the pier after life-saving personnel were summoned to the scene at 1:16 p.m., according to Hawaii Police Department.

The investigation is still classified as a coroner’s inquest. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death, police said.

Anyone who may have information regarding the incident should call Detective Ray Fukada at (808) 326-4646, ext. 281, via email at ray.fukada@hawaiicounty.gov or call the department’s nonemergency line at (808) 935-3311.
