Kazue Tanimoto

Kazue “Kay” Murakami Tanimoto, 101, of Hilo, died March 17, 2020, at her residence in Hilo. Born Jan. 28, 1919, in Hilo, she retired from Hilo Printers, Ltd. as a book binder, a member of the Taishoji Soto Mission in Hilo, Yamaguchi Kenjinkai and was a 4H leader.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 29 at Taishoji Soto Mission at 275 Kinoole St. in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by daughters, Carol (Susumu) Ikeda, Gweyn Eckart and Iris (James) Makin, all of Hilo; sisters, Haruye Hagiwara of Kaneohe, Oahu; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jeraldine Spencer

Jeraldine Kuulei Kaheiki Spencer, 71, of Hilo, died May 3, 2021 in the Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 11, 1949, in Hilo, she was a homemaker, league bowler with the Up Yours Women’s League, played softball for the Woody’s Team, paddled canoe on the Hui Wa’a O Waiakea Canoe Club, and was a founding member of the Panaewa Rainforest Buncos social dice team.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by sons, Richard (Akalina) Spencer and Charles Spencer, all of Hilo, and Kaipo Spencer of Volcano; daughters, Norma (Eddie) Barco of Keaau, and Ardis (Chris Sr.) Eblacas, Kera Spencer, Keri Spencer, Kaya Spencer and Kanoelani (Joseph) Nelson, all of Hilo; brothers, Francis (O’tillie) Kaheiki of Tacoma, WA, George (Kathleen) Kaheiki of Hilo and Steven Kaheiki of Hayward, CA; sisters, Rose Marie Chu of Hayward, CA and Bernadette Roberts of Hilo; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two aunts and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
