Harumi Mildred Oda, 103, of Kailua-Kona, died April 14, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 15, 1918, in Kealakekua, she was a nutritionist with the University of Hawaii and a member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Kainaliu Kumiai and Na Kupuna O Kona Ali’i Hula Halau.

She is survived by daughters, Marcia Hiromasa of Honolulu and Patricia (Fumio) Murasaki of Captain Cook; sisters, Doris Soma of Honolulu, and Janet (Ted) Kawamoto of Honalo; brother, Robert (Anne) Sunada of Cerritos, California; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter Aymond
Walter Edgar Aymond, 75, of Hilo, died June 25, 2021, at his residence. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, he was a counselor and teacher.

Herbert Schmeltz
Herbert Albert “Bud” Schmeltz, 85, of Puako, died July 4, 2021, at his residence. Born July 23, 1935 in San Diego, he was a retired merchant marine engineer for Matson.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. July 13 at Pua Ka Ilima Historical Surf Park (Kawaihae Harbor) for a celebration of life. A paddle out from the breakwall will follow at 9 a.m.

Malcolm Lorenzo, 56, of Honoka’a, died June 24, 2021, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Honoka’a, he was a light equipment operator at Maunakea Beach Hotel, and a member of Waipi’o Valley Taro Farmers Association, and ILWU.
